THIS PAGE IS STILL BEING WRITTEN
Voyager Project has existed in some form since 1999, although we have undergone frequent lineup changes and had a few periods of hiatus for numerous reasons. As a result, we have only performed in public infrequently during this period. Over the years, we have been temporarily blessed with the services of Ben Gristwood, Ann-Marie Leighton and Jacqueline Walpole on vocals, Pete Cooke on guitar, and Eva Cliffe, Edwin Li and Tom Bland on drums. We have dabbled in several genres, from straight-up hard rock to symphonic metal, before settling into our natural habitat of progressive rock.
Essentially, we are a band made up of friends. The band has always been Martin's brainchild, but he has known Rob since childhood, and first met Ed in late 2000 (he was at Cambridge with Martin's wife Eva). Dan came on the scene later, in 2008, when he moved into nearby Leek. We are all Christians, and have played for various church events over the years, but we prefer to keep our music accessible to all, with any faith context implied rather than explicit. That said, our lyrics are deliberately thought-provoking, and intentionally give the listener questions.
We released our first album, Where Angels Fear To Tread, in August 2010. This 10 song, 50 minute CD featured songwriting contributions from our friends John Wilkinson and Mark Slater, and for scheduling reasons, Martin performed all the parts on the album, as well as producing, mixing and mastering it. While it was a slow process, and the end result did not quite satisfy our own exacting requirements, we learnt a huge amount during the creation of the album. We were thankful to get some very positive reviews in the process, which bolstered our confidence, and we carry this forward into the production of A Walk In The Shadows, as well as into a project remixing Where Angels Fear To Tread for digital re-release.
With live appearances being few and far between (we live in a fairly spread-out area), we made the decision to concentrate on songwriting, recording and new media. As such, we have a healthy online presence, including Facebook, Reverb Nation, Twitter, YouTube and many other channels. We also maintain a regularly updated blog on our website. While we all have day jobs (Martin and Dan as music teachers, Rob as an organist and Ed as a church worker), we try to put as much time and effort into furthering the band as possible, to provide the richest experience for our fanbase.
